North Korean Flag: A Symbol of National Identity
Meaning and Symbolism
The North Korean flag, officially known as the Ramhongsaek Konghwagukgi, consists of three horizontal bands: blue at the top and bottom, separated by a wide red central stripe. The red stripe represents the blood of the Korean people, while the blue stripes symbolize the ocean that borders the country.
White Disk with Red Star
Off-center towards the hoist is a white disk with a red star inside. The disk represents the unity of the Korean people, while the star symbolizes the Korean Workers' Party, which has been the ruling party of North Korea since its founding in 1948.
